Anthropocene: Glacial Melt II / The Rise (Water) & Fall (Species)

Glass sculpture depicting ice-like polar bears that are melting due to an increase in global temperature.
The wax-modelled bears are melted using heat before being cast in unpolished transparent glass, giving them a frosted appearance like that of their habitat.
Displayed in a row, each bear is a little more melted than the last, representing the increase in temperature over time, and the loss of species and their habitats.
An arrow marks the current rate of global temperature increase, 1.52⁰C for 2024.
The two remaining bears show that there is still time remaining to make changes before all is lost.

Materials: Bullseye glass (frit) & sheet glass.

Technique: Lost wax casting

Dimensions: H130 x W450 x D200 mm

Weight: NK

Proposal designed: March 2024
