About me

I previously worked in the civil service for over 7 years, teaching myself photography and visiting gardens in my spare time. I entered local, national, and international competitions with varying success and occassionally still like to compete and base my work on my photos. After being made redundant in 2013, I decided to re-skill in a career I enjoyed. I undertook a variety of craft-related courses at Lincoln Castle's Heritage Skills Centre and The National Centre of Craft & Design. I could see the potential in glass fusing but wanted to learn other glass techniques and so after taking a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design and specialising in 3D Design, I decided to study Glass and Ceramics at The University of Sunderland. Please see the statement page for information regarding my work.

I have suffer from a variety of issues including chronic pain and fatigue (Fibromyalgia). Although this impacts on my abilities sometimes I still try to be as self-sufficient as possible and like to be hands on in as many areas of my practice as possible from making to displaying my work. I have self-funded my studio renovation and equipment from my life savings, restored a lot of my studio myself (see my blog), and have adapted my working practices where possible to try and reduce further injury.

I work part-time and produce handcrafted artwork for exhibitions when I feel able.

I have set up a dedicated website and shop for handcrafted gifts here.
