Anthropocene: Bee'd (bead)

Traditional beehive bead design with bee and flower detail.

Modelled in clay and modelling wax. Cast in amber glass using the lost wax process.

The holes are placed vertically and the bee and flower are placed on the sides.

Bees and other insects have been used in jewellery in Britain for hundreds of years as symbols of good luck, wealth, and somewhat ironically prosperity and wisdom.

Their numbers have drastically declined due to habitat loss, changing weather, and intensive farming practices.

The Tory government has yet again seen fit to lift the ban on neonicotinoid bee-killing pesticides - Jan 2024.
